Micro-Needling (Dermapen®)

Dermapen® is a pin with a rotating attachment made of finest titanium needles, which set 1300 holes/second – depending on the indication, the length of the needles can be varied electrically (0.5-2.5mm). The pin is moved horizontally, vertically and diagonally on the area to be treated. This skin is then very finely perforated or injured, and that is exactly why the immune system is awakened. This begins immediately with the healing of the area and releases collagen, elastin and the body’s own hyaluronic acid. Cosmetically treated (0.5 – 1.0 mm) this has a rejuvenating effect – the blood circulation of the skin is considerably increased, which leads to a better supply of nutrients and a better, uniform skin appearance. The skin becomes thicker again, the pore size is reduced, pigment changes are attenuated and the skin looks younger. Additional effects are achieved by the simultaneous incorporation of vitamins / additional hyaluronic acid or own blood.

The important protective function of the skin is not affected by the micro injuries, because the uppermost skin layer is closed again after a few minutes.

Medically treated (1-2.5mm penetration depth), scars after burns/acne/surgery can be greatly improved or deeper wrinkles smoothed and a sometimes dramatic skin renewal can be achieved – similar to a treatment with fractional laser (‚fractional resurfacing‘) or intensive acid peeling with but less downtime.

If one works in medical needle depth then a 3-4 week preparation of the area with a vitamin cream is very important in order to achieve the best possible results – the after-treatment is very important for success depending on the penetration depth of the needles as instructed by the doctor.

The great advantage of the Dermapen® is the individually adjustable needle depth, so that each skin region can be treated according to its needs or thickness. The needles are always packed new and sterile for each treatment. Due to the ultra-fast insertion vibration technique, a short treatment time can be expected.

Needling would not be painless at the medical needle penetration depth without anaesthetic cream.

The procedure for conducting a session is as described below:

First, thoroughly clean the surface to be treated. Then, about 30 minutes before the medical micro-needling, a special anaesthetic cream is applied. After a sufficiently long application time the cream is removed again. Disinfection and treatment again with the Dermapen® or needle roller. Finally, again light cleaning and application of a soothing vitamin-rich serum or mask.

Depending on the intensity of the treatment (cosmetic versus medical) only a slight redness for 36-48h up to a failure of one – maximum two – weeks is to be expected.

Intensive sun exposure should be avoided for up to 6 weeks afterwards.

Depending on the initial findings or the aim of the treatment, 2-8 sessions and 1-2 refresher sessions per year are recommended.
